As you may have noticed, I have an obsession with this little boy. When I was pregnant I never thought I could love something as much as I love my sweet Cameron. My husband and I say this all the time, he is the BEST thing to ever happen to us! It is funny, I have never loved styling my husband and buying him clothing. Maybe the reason is he doesn’t like the things I pick (he is more of a t-shirt and sweats guy). But I LOVE styling Cameron. I had always pictured having a girl and dressing her up in all sorts of dresses and bows but as time has gone by with Cameron I have been enjoying dressing him more and more! He frequently is here on the blog and on my Instagram so today I thought I would share three tips on styling little boys!
I started to purchase Cameron clothing before he was born. I am a huge online shopper but I had such a hard time going online to pick something out for him. I wanted to go to the store to touch the clothes and picture my little guy in them. I probably ended up doing this once a week until he was born which in the end made me have far too much clothing for him. I thought from the moment he was born he was going to be in all these little cute outfits and I also thought I needed multiples of everything so that I had things I loved. Little did I know that this was not going to be the case.
As Cameron got bigger and I got smarter about his clothing I started buying more of what we needed and what I knew suited him and less of little things just because I thought they would look cute. Before I knew it he almost had more shoes than me and his closet was full of clothing with tags still on them that he out grew! I knew I was wasting money and my time!
He has started to develop a personality of his own and I have been trying to reflect that in his clothing. See my three tips for styling your little boy below!
TIP 1
Find Soft Fabrics – One thing I noticed the past few months is Cameron loves to move! He is always reaching, jumping, and soon he will be climbing which is why even when buying him denim I look for the softest fabrics. I love this pair of Hudson French Terry Jeans because he is as comfortable in them as he would be in sweats.
TIP 2
Boys are fun, their clothing should be too! – For Cameron, I am always looking for fun things for him to wear. He is such a little man already and I love putting him in bold patterns like in this post or fun patches and sayings on his shirts like this patch hoodie. He is quite adorable in anything but I like to give him a little personality in what he wears!
TIP 3
Don’t be afraid! – This one was a little tough for me at first. I found it hard to put him in some things because I was afraid he was going to get dirty. After a few mishaps I realized it was going to happen no matter what I did! Now that I know he is going to get dirty I look for items that are easily machine washable! Let them be boys!
